Prepared with only the knowledge that he should follow the Southern Cross, Liang devises a secret plan. He and Bo are going to escape, travel overland to Perth and go home to China. In a daring scramble across the roof of the Detention Centre the kids make it into the bush and head south. At times frightened, tired and overcome with heat exhaustion they remain relentless in their pursuit. Guided by a cast of eccentric allies they meet along the way, the kids remain protected from the pursuing authorities. Growing public sympathy escalates as news leaks out that the escapees are kids - orphans whom a heartless government wants to separate. In this epic journey, against all the odds, Liang and Bo conquer their fears and prevail in their quest - with a little help from some friends.
